Before joining Elmár Sailing, I had some sailing experience on a very small 420 sailboat, just four meters long, mostly for coastal or inland water sailing. When I joined Elmár Sailing, I moved onto a much bigger 41-foot Noceanis boat. That was a big step for me, and I was a little scared about being able to control such a large boat and take on the leadership role of a skipper. It’s not only about knowing maneuvers; it’s about managing people, which is quite different and challenging.
What attracted me to Elmár Sailing was the strong focus on the freedom sailing gives you and the feelings it creates. I also appreciated the professionalism I saw on their Instagram profile and the good connection I had with Sergy, the captain, who always replied to my comments and messages.
Sailing gives a unique kind of freedom—you set the course as you want, with no roads or constraints. It helps you disconnect from everyday life, relax more, eat better, and usually, the people you sail with become close friends because you rely on each other deeply.
The most memorable moment for me was towards the end of the week, sailing back to the home port on our own, with the captain resting while we handled everything. We were well coordinated and in sync, and that moment showed me that after just a week of training, we could manage a boat of this size confidently.
This experience made me realize that yes, I can do it. I still need practice, but I know I’m capable of managing the boat and living the sailing life.
I would recommend Elmár Sailing to any friends who are into sailing. I tell them simply: “Just go. Just do it.” No matter the trip, there’s something for everyone, whether you want to learn to be a captain or just enjoy a vacation. My dream sailing destination is Greece because of the memories and the strong winds it offers. I’m looking forward to going back.
